Slow tax estimates could pull users back to Overview

A pending estimate in Filing Harbor could overwrite a newer page choice by returning the user to Overview when its response arrived.

How the finding changed

Belief

After a successful calculation, the app could always send the user to Overview to show the updated estimate.

Evidence

The mobile W-2 browser test twice failed to find the Guided Interview page after the user had navigated there. The desktop test passed, and TypeScript and the production frontend build passed in the Jenkins run.

Contradiction

The success handler switched sections after waiting for the request, even if the user had gone elsewhere in the meantime. A first targeted rerun also used the wrong source revision, so test identity needed checking.

Correction

Update the calculation results, but go to Overview only if the user is still in the section where the calculation began. Add a browser test that holds a pending response, navigates away, then releases the response.

Current claim boundary

The fix is merged, and the operator reported desktop and mobile targeted tests passing on the right revision. Full post-merge browser and Jenkins acceptance has not been observed. The fix does not cover every cross-year or session race.

Evidence

A public-safe summary of source review and operator-reported targeted tests. The private code changes and full Jenkins records are not public evidence.
